Colchester: Motor yacht firm sails away with enterprise prize By Vanessa Moon » A HYTHE Quay company was named best new business client at a celebration of new business in Colchester. Each year the Colchester Business Enterprise Agency (Colbea), in George Williams Way, recognises a handful of firms that its advisers have seen develop over the previous 12 months. This year Colbea presented Blackwater Motor Yachts with its best new business client award. The business, which makes boats to specially commissioned designs, was established at the end of 2007 by John Collins and Julia Brinkley, who sought guidance from Colbea advisers on the initial setting up and trading. It now employs four people and several sub-contractors and uses a network of suppliers across the Colchester area. Despite being up and running for just a year, the firm has a new design that will be exhibited at the Boat Show in London in this month.   Colbea picked the company for its "dedication and enthusiasm" along with its robust business approach and entrepreneurial spirit. Judges were also impressed with how the company has grown and generated employment in Colchester.
